Dog Days - Paws to Read (2nd and 4th Tuesday)

Bring your child to the Main Library for our newest program , Dog Days - Paws to Read. This program allows your child to read aloud to a dog for 5 - 10 minutes. A volunteer will be present during the entire session. It helps build reading confidence in children while they are relaxing and having fun. This fun and popular program (successfully run at Beaver Run and Chipman Elementary Schools) is proven to lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and it encourages the love of books in an environment full of opportunities to practice the full range of communications skills. Children must be 4-12 years old, must be accompanied by an adult, and not have any allergies to dogs. You may bring your own books or choose chapter or picture books from the library to read. Click here for a copy of the Permission slip which must be signed by parent/guardian and presented at the program.This program will be held the 2nd and the 4th Tuesday of each month. Free.

Summer Kick-Off Event Music with Barry Louis Polisar

Come to the Main Library for a musical treat with Barry Louis Polisar. Barry is an author, songwriter, story-teller and poet. A four-time Parents' Choice Award winner, Barry has written songs for Sesame Street and The Weekly Reader. He has been a regular musical performer on The Learning Channel and the star of an Emmy Award-winning television show for children. Barry writes books and poems, visits schools and libraries throughout the United States and Europe. He will bring his guitar and sings songs he has written, read from his books, recite poetry and tell stories--all to demonstrate that there are many different ways to be an author.
